Machine Operator

A. O. Smith seeks a Machine Operator to support high-volume production of residential and commercial water heaters and water treatment products in our Milwaukee manufacturing facility. In this role, you will set up, operate, and monitor automated and manual equipment, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality output. You will inspect parts, record production data, perform basic maintenance, and support 5S and continuous improvement activities. This position is ideal for mechanically inclined individuals who want to grow skills in a stable, performance-driven manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor automated and manual production equipment for water heaters and treatment products
• Set up machines, perform basic adjustments, and complete changeovers per production schedule
• Inspect parts and finished products for quality, dimensions, and safety compliance
• Follow standard work, safety procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements
• Record production data, downtime, and materials used in manufacturing systems or logs
• Perform routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance on equipment
• Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues
• Support continuous improvement, 5
• S, and lean manufacturing initiatives
• Handle materials, load/unload components, and package finished products
• Communicate status of work, safety concerns, and quality issues to supervisors
