Ascension is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Adult Behavioral Health unit. In this role, you will deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to adult patients experiencing acute psychiatric and behavioral health conditions. Responsibilities include comprehensive mental health assessments, developing and updating individualized care plans, administering medications, monitoring treatment responses, and ensuring a safe therapeutic environment. You will collaborate closely with psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists, provide patient and family education, support crisis intervention and de-escalation, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives while growing your skills in a learning-focused culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric and medical nursing assessments for adult behavioral health patients.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer and monitor psychiatric and medical medications, documenting responses and adverse effects.
  • Ensure a safe, therapeutic environment by following behavioral health safety protocols and precautions.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation using approved techniques to manage acute behavioral episodes.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, coping strategies, and discharge plans.
  • Accurately document all care, assessments, and interventions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and support staff on treatment planning and discharge.
  • Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support orientation and mentorship of new staff, contributing to a culture of learning and inclusivity.
