The Advocates - PNW seeks a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support attorneys advancing social and economic justice across the Pacific Northwest. Responsibilities include client intake, scheduling, and maintaining case files; drafting, proofreading, and formatting pleadings, correspondence, and reports; coordinating hearings, deadlines, and court filings; and conducting basic legal research. The role works closely with attorneys, community partners, and clients from diverse backgrounds. Ideal candidates bring strong organization, communication, and technology skills, commitment to civil rights, and experience in legal or public interest environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys with client intake, screening, and communication
  • Draft, proofread, and format pleadings, correspondence, and legal documents
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical case files
  • Manage calendars, hearings, and filing deadlines
  • Coordinate court filings, service, and e-filing as required
  • Conduct basic legal and factual research under attorney supervision
  • Prepare summaries, exhibits, and supporting materials for hearings
  • Liaise with clients, community partners, and service providers
  • Protect client confidentiality and follow legal ethics standards
  • Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven team environment
