The American National Red Cross seeks a Building Engineer to support our Facilities & Maintenance team. This role ensures safe, efficient operation of building systems-including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety equipment-across our mission-driven, humanitarian organization. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, vendor coordination, and support for renovation projects. Responsibilities
- Perform daily operation, inspection, and maintenance of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety systems for Red Cross facilities.
- Respond promptly to work orders and service requests to diagnose and repair building issues, minimizing downtime and disruption to humanitarian operations.
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment and systems to extend asset life, improve energy efficiency, and reduce emergency repairs.
- Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to maintain occupant comfort, system reliability, and cost-effective energy use.
- Support emergency and disaster-response readiness by ensuring facilities, backup systems, and critical infrastructure remain operational and safe.
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and in accordance with Red Cross standards and regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or similar platform.
- Perform routine facility upkeep such as minor carpentry, painting, door and hardware repair, and general building improvements.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, promptly address hazards, and follow OSHA, fire, and life-safety regulations and Red Cross policies.
- Collaborate closely with facilities, operations, and program staff to support mission-critical activities, special events, and blood drives.
- Provide on-call or after-hours support for urgent facility issues, severe weather, or disaster-related needs, as required.
