Responsibilities
- Safely operate flatbed trucks hauling over-dimensional, heavy-haul, and high-value freight across North America
- Secure and tarp flatbed loads in compliance with company and DOT safety standards
- Plan routes for over-dimensional freight, accounting for permits, clearances, and restricted roads
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain accurate driver logs
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, customers, and support staff to ensure on-time delivery
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations, including hours-of-service rules
- Protect customer cargo through careful handling, securement, and documentation
- Represent Lone Star Transportation with professional conduct at shipper and receiver locations
- Report equipment issues promptly and coordinate with maintenance for needed repairs
- Participate in ongoing safety and skills training programs
Required Skills
- Safe operation of Class A CDL flatbed trucks
- Load securement (chains, binders, straps, tarps)
- Over-dimensional and heavy-haul transport procedures
- Route planning for oversize/overweight loads
- Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and hours-of-service regulations
- Electronic logging device (ELD) operation
- Trip planning, fuel and time management
- Basic vehicle inspection and defect reporting
- Customer communication and professionalism at docks
- Reading permits, clearances, and specialized routing instructions
