Mechanic
Forward Air is seeking a skilled Mechanic to keep our fleet running safely and efficiently in a fast-paced transportation environment. In this role, you will inspect, diagnose, and repair tractors, trailers, and material-handling equipment that support expedited LTL, intermodal, and final mile operations across North America. Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic, brake, and engine systems, and responding to urgent repair needs to minimize downtime. You'll work closely with operations teams, follow strict safety and DOT standards, and maintain accurate service records. Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair tractors, trailers, and material-handling equipment
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize downtime
- Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, brake, and engine systems using diagnostic tools
- Complete repair orders, parts usage, and maintenance records accurately and on time
- Ensure all work complies with DOT, safety, and company standards
- Support road-call and emergency repair situations as needed
- Collaborate with operations to prioritize equipment repairs and availability
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
- Assist with root-cause analysis of recurring mechanical issues
- Participate in ongoing training on new equipment, tools, and safety practices
