Hospital Service Technician

Hospital Service Technicians at WM support Environmental Services by safely collecting, handling, and staging medical and solid waste within hospital facilities. Working closely with hospital staff, this role ensures proper segregation, labeling, and transport of regulated waste while following strict OSHA, DOT, and infection-control standards. Technicians operate basic equipment, complete documentation, and perform routine cleaning and inspections of containers and work areas. Responsibilities

• Clean, disinfect, and stage medical waste containers and carts for hospital units
• Safely collect, transport, and load regulated medical waste following WM and hospital protocols
• Operate basic material-handling equipment and hand tools in compliance with safety standards
• Inspect equipment and work areas, reporting damage, leaks, or safety hazards immediately
• Maintain accurate service logs, labels, and documentation for all waste streams
• Use required PPE and follow infection-control and OSHA guidelines at all times
• Communicate professionally with hospital staff to schedule pickups and resolve service issues
• Support environmental compliance and segregation of waste streams (sharps, pharma, RMW)
• Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement activities
• Assist teammates and supervisors with other Environmental Services tasks as assigned

Required Skills

• Medical waste handling and segregation
