Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing evaluations using standardized and non-standardized assessment tools
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results, patient goals, and evidence-based practice
  • Provide direct therapy services to a diverse caseload across multiple settings, adapting interventions to age, diagnosis, and functional needs
  • Document evaluations, goals, daily treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with facility, payer, and professional standards
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, educators, and other team members to coordinate and optimize patient care
  • Educate and train patients, families, and caregivers on communication strategies, compensatory techniques, home programs, and safe swallowing recommendations
  • Participate in case conferences, IEP meetings, care plan meetings, and other interdisciplinary discussions as required by each placement site
  • Adhere to all professional, ethical, and regulatory standards, including HIPAA, state practice acts, and facility policies
  • Adjust to varying caseloads, documentation systems, and workflows in different facilities while maintaining high-quality care and productivity expectations

Required Skills

  • Speech, language, and cognitive-communication assessment
  • Swallowing (dysphagia) assessment and treatment
  • Development of individualized treatment plans
  • Pediatric and/or adult speech-language intervention techniques
  • Use of standardized assessment tools and outcome measures
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) familiarity
  • Clinical documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) proficiency
  • Interdisciplinary team collaboration
  • Patient and caregiver education and counseling
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice in speech-language pathology
  • Time management and caseload prioritization
  • Understanding of school-based IEP processes (if school placements)
