Drexel Building Supply is seeking a Commodity Buyer to manage purchasing of lumber and building materials for our fast-growing construction supply operations. In this role, you'll track commodity markets, negotiate with vendors, and secure competitive pricing while ensuring reliable product availability for our builder, contractor, and homeowner customers. You'll plan inventory, analyze demand, and partner closely with sales, logistics, and operations. Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase lumber and building materials to meet branch demand
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with key suppliers
  • Monitor commodity markets and adjust buying strategies to control costs
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels and manage stock replenishment
  • Analyze usage, lead times, and sales forecasts to plan purchases
  • Resolve supply issues, delivery delays, and quality concerns with vendors
  • Collaborate with sales, operations, and logistics to support customer needs
  • Track KPIs for cost savings, fill rates, and supplier performance
  • Use ERP and purchasing systems to place orders and maintain records
  • Support continuous improvement of purchasing processes and vendor base
