Interstate Waste Services seeks a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a modern fleet of waste and recycling trucks in our Technical & Maintenance department. Responsibilities include performing diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, and compacting equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation. You'll follow strict safety procedures, complete work orders, and collaborate with drivers and supervisors to minimize downtime. Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems on waste collection trucks
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to maximize fleet uptime and reliability
  • Complete accurate work orders, repair records, and parts usage in maintenance systems
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and supervisors to identify and resolve equipment issues
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE use
  • Assist with road calls, emergency repairs, and after-hours support as needed
  • Use diagnostic software, tools, and service manuals to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and care for shop tools and equipment
  • Support continuous improvement efforts in maintenance practices and reliability
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current on modern diesel and refuse truck technology
