State Farm seeks an In-House Litigation Counsel to manage complex insurance and financial services disputes while providing strategic legal guidance to internal partners. In this role, you will oversee all stages of litigation, from case assessment and strategy through discovery, motion practice, negotiation, and resolution. You will collaborate closely with claims, underwriting, and business leaders to evaluate legal risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and support business objectives. You will also direct outside counsel, contribute to process improvements, and help shape State Farm's litigation and risk management practices in a highly collaborative, values-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on complex insurance and financial services litigation matters
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation
  • Partner with internal business units to assess legal risk and develop strategies that align with company goals
  • Oversee and coordinate with outside counsel, ensuring quality, cost-effective representation
  • Interpret and apply applicable laws, regulations, and case precedents to business decisions
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, settlement agreements, and correspondence
  • Support claims and underwriting teams with legal analysis and risk mitigation recommendations
  • Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations
  • Advise leadership on emerging legal trends, compliance issues, and potential exposure
  • Contribute to training and development on litigation risk and best practices across the organization
