This is a well-established health system in East Texas offering comprehensive gastroenterology services, including a fully equipped GI lab and a dedicated clinic team. The facility supports a busy hospitalist service, two NPs, and one PA-C working within the GI clinic, providing strong team-based care for both inpatient and outpatient populations.

Physician (MD) - Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology

Job Details:
  • Provide locum tenens gastroenterology coverage for a high-demand GI service line in Tyler, TX
  • Perform scheduled colonoscopies on a Monday through Friday schedule
  • Conduct inpatient GI consults from the previous night following scheduled procedures
  • Provide additional GI lab services as needed following scheduled colonoscopies
  • 5-7 patient encounters per shift in a 7-bed department
  • Active Texas medical license required
  • Board certification required (Certified minimum)
  • Fellowship training required
  • ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certifications required
  • Credentialing timeframe approximately 30-60 days
  • Nearest major airport: DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth)
  • Required procedural skills include:
  • Upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder, and injection of varices
  • ERCP - both diagnostic and therapeutic
  • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
  • Esophageal dilatation/manometry and esophageal manometry interpretation
  • Small bowel biopsy
  • Lower GI endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy (flexible and rigid)
  • Colonoscopy with biopsy and excision of polyp
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
  • Liver biopsy
  • Insertion and management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube

Compensation:
Competitive hourly rates with weekly pay and malpractice included.
