Waste Management is seeking an Environmental Technician to join our Environmental Services department in the Waste Management industry. In this role, you will support daily environmental operations, including waste handling, sampling, inspections, and basic reporting to ensure regulatory compliance and environmental protection. You will work closely with field and facility teams to maintain safe, clean, and efficient work sites. Responsibilities
- Perform routine environmental sampling of soil, water, and waste materials following established procedures
- Assist with the proper handling, segregation, labeling, and staging of solid and liquid wastes
- Support daily site inspections to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
- Operate basic tools and equipment to support environmental cleanup, container management, and material handling
- Maintain accurate logs, labels, and documentation for waste streams, inspections, and sampling activities
- Follow standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in safety meetings and training
- Report spills, unsafe conditions, and potential environmental issues to supervisors promptly
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant work area, including storage and transfer areas
- Collaborate with Environmental Services staff, drivers, and operations teams to support efficient and safe site operations
- Participate in training programs to build knowledge of environmental regulations and WM practices
- Provide occasional support during after-hours or weekend events, shutdowns, or clean-up activities as needed
Required Skills
- Environmental sampling and data collection
- Basic knowledge of waste handling and disposal regulations
- Use of hand tools and small equipment
- Operation of forklifts or similar equipment (preferred)
- Accurate recordkeeping and documentation
- Reading and following SOPs and work instructions
- Basic computer skills (email, data entry)
