The Helen Ross McNabb Center, a leading not-for-profit behavioral health service provider in East Tennessee, is seeking a dedicated Disaster Relief Therapist for Cocke County. This position focuses on delivering prompt mental health care and support to individuals and families affected by disasters. The therapist will work within the Emergency Management Services team, focusing on crisis intervention and long-term recovery strategies tailored to individual needs sparked by traumatic events.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site and remote psychological assessments to identify mental health needs following a disaster.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and long-term psychotherapy to affected individuals.
  • Develop and facilitate group therapy sessions tailored to disaster-specific experiences.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive support services.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness training and simulation exercises.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, adapting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Engage in community outreach to promote mental health resilience and preparedness.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in various therapeutic techniques, including but not limited to CBT, EMDR, and trauma-focused therapy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging environments.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations.
