Head Start Teacher
Children First, Inc., a mission-driven nonprofit in Athens, GA, is seeking a Head Start Teacher to lead a high-quality preschool classroom serving vulnerable children and families. The teacher plans and delivers developmentally appropriate lessons that promote school readiness, social-emotional growth, and kindergarten preparation. Responsibilities include creating a safe, inclusive classroom; conducting ongoing child assessments; maintaining accurate records; and ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. The role collaborates closely with families, support staff, and community partners to strengthen family stability. Ideal candidates bring early childhood teaching experience, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to child advocacy and equity.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate Head Start classroom curriculum aligned with program standards
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for preschool children
- Conduct ongoing child assessments, track progress, and maintain accurate documentation
- Engage and communicate regularly with families to support children's learning and development
- Collaborate with teaching assistants, family support staff, and community partners
- Adapt instruction to support children with diverse backgrounds and abilities
- Promote social-emotional development, school readiness, and positive behavior
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and licensing regulations
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuous quality improvement efforts
- Support organizational mission of child safety, advocacy, and family stability
