Mount Prospect Academy seeks an Outdoor Paraprofessional to support at-risk and high-needs youth through outdoor and experiential learning. In this field-based role, you'll assist teachers and clinicians by leading small-group outdoor activities, reinforcing individualized behavior and treatment plans, and modeling positive social and life skills. You'll maintain safety, structure, and clear expectations during hikes, recreation, and campus programs, using trauma-informed and de-escalation strategies. As part of a collaborative, mission-driven team, you'll document student progress, join regular training and supervision, and help create meaningful growth opportunities for every student.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support outdoor educational and recreational activities for at-risk youth in small group settings
  • Implement individualized behavior and treatment plans under teacher and clinical team guidance
  • Model and teach social, life, and coping skills in outdoor and experiential learning environments
  • Maintain a safe, structured environment during outdoor programs, trips, and campus activities
  • Observe, document, and report student behavior, progress, and safety concerns
  • Collaborate with teachers, clinicians, and residential staff on student goals and interventions
  • De-escalate challenging situations using trauma-informed and positive behavior strategies
  • Assist with transportation, supervision, and transitions between activities and campus locations
  • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and team meetings
  • Help maintain outdoor equipment, activity areas, and program materials
