Childcare Assistant Teacher

The YMCA is seeking a caring Childcare Assistant Teacher to support high-quality early learning in a mission-driven, inclusive environment. You'll help implement age-appropriate activities, supervise children, and maintain a safe, engaging classroom. Working collaboratively with lead teachers, you'll support social, emotional, and cognitive development while modeling the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. This role offers hands-on experience in youth development, nonprofit service, and teamwork while making a direct impact on children and families in your community.

Responsibilities

• Support lead teachers in implementing age-appropriate, engaging activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
• Supervise children to ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment at all times.
• Assist with daily routines including meals, bathroom breaks, rest time, and transitions between activities.
• Maintain clean, organized classrooms and play areas following YMCA health and safety standards.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, and team members, modeling YMCA values.
• Communicate observations and concerns about children's behavior or development to lead teachers or supervisors.
• Support implementation of YMCA policies, including behavior guidance and inclusion practices.
• Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and professional development sessions.
