Roll Press Operator

TSG - The Sheridan Group seeks a skilled Press Rollstand Operator to support our Manufacturing & Production team in a fast-paced environment. The Operator will set up, load, and align paper rolls, monitor web tension, and ensure smooth, safe press operation. Responsibilities include performing basic maintenance, troubleshooting roll feed issues, minimizing waste and downtime, and following strict quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a manufacturing or print environment, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively on a high-performance production team.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor press rollstands to support printing press operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Load, secure, and align paper rolls or other web materials using appropriate material handling equipment and alignment systems
• Thread web material through the press and rollstands according to job specifications, ensuring correct tension and registration
• Continuously monitor rollstand performance, web tension, and material feed to minimize waste, prevent breaks, and maintain print quality
• Perform basic mechanical adjustments and troubleshooting on rollstands and associated equipment to resolve jams, misfeeds, and alignment issues
• Inspect materials for defects before and during runs and communicate quality concerns to press operators and supervisors
• Follow detailed production schedules, job tickets, and setup instructions to meet deadlines and customer specifications
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance on rollstands and related equipment to ensure reliable operation
• Accurately document production data, material usage, downtime, and any issues in logs or production systems
• Work closely with press operators, maintenance, and other production team members to coordinate changeovers and resolve problems quickly
• Adhere strictly to safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout, proper lifting techniques, and use of required personal protective equipment
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in accordance with company and regulatory standards
• Participate in ongoing training and process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, safety, and product quality
