Academic Tutor and Mentor

As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year, you'll serve full-time in a partner public school, providing small-group and one-on-one academic support, mentoring, and homework help to students. You'll track progress, reinforce classroom instruction, and lead activities that build engagement, social-emotional skills, and a positive school climate. You'll collaborate closely with teachers and a diverse team of AmeriCorps members, participate in professional development, and grow your leadership skills while making a meaningful impact on students' success.

Responsibilities

• Provide small-group and one-on-one academic tutoring in core subjects
• Support classroom instruction under teacher guidance
• Mentor students to build motivation, confidence, and social-emotional skills
• Monitor and document student progress and participation
• Communicate regularly with teachers and team members about student needs
• Help plan and lead enrichment, after-school, or homework support sessions
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom and school environment
• Participate in ongoing training, coaching, and professional development
• Engage families and school staff respectfully and professionally
