As an Academic Tutor and Mentor with City Year in the Education, Training & E-Learning department, you will work full-time in partner public schools to support students' academic and personal growth. You'll provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring, reinforce classroom instruction, track progress, and promote positive behavior. In collaboration with teachers and diverse City Year teammates, you'll help create an inclusive, engaging learning environment. This role offers ongoing professional development, leadership opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on student success and educational equity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small-group and one-on-one academic tutoring in core subjects (e.g., math, ELA).
  • Support classroom instruction and assist teachers with lesson reinforcement and activities.
  • Monitor and document student progress, attendance, and engagement data.
  • Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, confidence, and positive behavior.
  • Help create an inclusive, supportive classroom and school climate.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, school staff, and City Year teammates about student needs.
  • Participate in family or school events that support student success, as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing training, coaching, and professional development.
  • Contribute to team planning, reflection, and problem-solving sessions.
  • Uphold City Year's values around diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
