City Year is seeking an Academic Tutor to support students' academic and social-emotional growth in partner public schools. In this full-time role, you will provide small-group and one-on-one tutoring in core subjects, track student progress, and collaborate with teachers to align support with classroom instruction. You will serve as a mentor and positive role model, helping students build confidence, set goals, and develop effective learning habits. Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group academic tutoring in core subjects (e.g., math, English, reading) during and after school.
  • Mentor students to build social-emotional skills, including goal-setting, self-confidence, and positive behavior.
  • Support classroom teachers with lesson reinforcement, classroom management, and student engagement activities.
  • Monitor and document student progress, attendance, and participation, using data to adjust support strategies.
  • Facilitate homework help sessions, enrichment activities, and academic interventions for students needing additional support.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, families, teachers, and school staff.
  • Participate in ongoing City Year training, professional development, and reflective practice sessions.
