TSG - The Sheridan Group is seeking a Press Utility Operator to support our Manufacturing & Production operations in the print media space. In this role, you'll assist with press setup, operation, and maintenance, ensuring high-quality print output and efficient production flow. Responsibilities include loading materials, monitoring press performance, performing basic troubleshooting, and supporting changeovers. You'll work closely with a collaborative, high-performance team committed to impactful communications, gaining exposure to fast-paced production that supports public affairs and issue-advocacy campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Assist with setup, operation, and shut down of printing presses under direction of senior operators
- Load, unload, and stage paper, ink, and other materials for print runs
- Monitor press operation to identify basic quality issues such as misregistration, smudging, or color variation
- Perform routine housekeeping on and around presses to maintain a clean, safe work area
- Handle, stack, count, and label finished printed materials for downstream processes or shipment
- Complete simple production and quality logs or checklists as required
- Follow all safety procedures, including use of PPE and proper material handling practices
- Communicate equipment issues, supply shortages, or quality concerns to supervisors promptly
- Support continuous improvement efforts by following standard work and offering feedback on process improvements
Required Skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude for operating and assisting with maintenance of production machinery
- Ability to read and follow job tickets, production orders, and basic work instructions
- Understanding of basic quality checks in print production (registration, color consistency, print clarity)
- Safe material handling and ability to lift and move materials repeatedly
- Basic math and counting skills for tracking quantities and recording production data
- Familiarity with manufacturing safety practices and PPE use
- Time management and ability to follow production schedules
- Teamwork and communication skills in a production environment
- Basic computer or scanner use for logging jobs or labeling product
