Roll Press Operator

TSG - The Sheridan Group seeks a skilled Press Rollstand Operator to support our Manufacturing & Production team in a fast-paced environment. The Operator will set up, load, and align paper rolls, monitor web tension, and ensure smooth, safe press operation. Responsibilities include performing basic maintenance, troubleshooting roll feed issues, minimizing waste and downtime, and following strict quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate has prior experience in a manufacturing or print environment, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively on a high-performance production team.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and monitor rollstand equipment to feed paper and materials to the press according to production specifications
• Load, align, and secure rolls, adjusting web tension, tracking, and splicing to ensure continuous press operation
• Perform routine mechanical checks and minor adjustments to maintain optimal machine performance and minimize downtime
• Inspect materials for defects, verify correct stock, and monitor quality throughout runs, taking corrective action as needed
• Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout, proper lifting, and use of PPE to maintain a safe work environment
• Coordinate with press operators, production supervisors, and maintenance staff to meet schedule, quality, and productivity targets
• Accurately record production data, material usage, and downtime in shop floor systems or logs
• Assist with cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance of rollstand and related equipment to extend equipment life and reliability
• Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance quality
• Train with senior operators and participate in ongoing skill development to expand technical capabilities on press and rollstand operations
