General Surgery Physician Locum Tenens Opportunity

Delaware Inpatient Call Coverage

WPA Medicine Staffing is seeking a Board Certified General Surgeon for an ongoing inpatient locum tenens opportunity in Delaware. This assignment offers flexible monthly scheduling with strong clinical support and a long-term coverage need.

Assignment Details

• Start Date: July/August 2026
• Length of Assignment: Ongoing through July 2027
• Coverage Need: Approximately 6 shifts per month
• Minimum Commitment: 6 months preferred
• Practice Setting: Inpatient
• Trauma Level: Level III

Schedule

• Typical Shift: 7:00 AM 7:00 AM
• Weekend coverage may begin at 5:00 PM
• Physician will hold pager call and report onsite if called in
• Providers must remain within 30 minutes of the hospital while on call

Responsibilities

Traditional General Surgery call coverage including:

• ED consults
• Inpatient consults
• Hospital call coverage
• Trauma and emergency surgical evaluations

Types of Cases

• Appendicitis
• Bowel obstructions
• Broken limbs and trauma-related injuries
• Auto accident injuries
• Victims of crimes
• Fall-related injuries
• Post-operative readmissions

Patient volume may fluctuate seasonally. Fall and winter months are generally lighter with limited overnight consults. Summer tourist season can significantly increase patient encounters and consult volume, particularly during weekends and holidays.

• Experienced Nursing Staff
• Surgical Techs

Requirements

• Board Certified in General Surgery
• ATLS Certification Required
• Active Delaware License preferred
• Open to providers with IMLC in hand
• DEA preferred with ability to transfer
• CSR required if applicable

Credentialing

• Estimated Credentialing Timeframe: days

Additional Information

• Facility requires adherence to all vaccination policies and procedures
• No exceptions to vaccine requirements
