JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: HVAC and Refrigeration Technician

Reports To: Owner / Operations Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly + Commission

Location: Largo, FL (with service territory spanning Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Gulf Coast)


POSITION OVERVIEW

Eco Air Conditioning & Refrigeration seeks a skilled and reliable HVAC and Refrigeration Technician to provide professional installation, maintenance, and repair services for residential and commercial clients. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in the field while representing a locally-owned, veteran-owned business.

This role offers the opportunity to work with modern HVAC and refrigeration systems, build long-term customer relationships, and earn competitive pay through hourly wages and performance-based commission.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Installation & System Setup:


Install residential and commercial HVAC systems (split systems, package units, rooftop units)

Perform new refrigeration installations (walk-in coolers, reach-in units, ice machines)

Install and connect ductwork, refrigerant lines, and electrical components

Conduct system startup, charging, and performance testing

Ensure all work meets code requirements and manufacturer specifications


Maintenance & Service:


Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems

Clean evaporator coils, condensers, and ductwork

Replace filters, belts, and other components

Conduct refrigerant checks and system diagnostics

Service commercial maintenance plan customers

Respond to emergency service calls


Repair & Troubleshooting:


Diagnose HVAC and refrigeration problems using specialized equipment

Repair or replace compressors, motors, contactors, capacitors, and controls

Handle refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging per EPA standards

Document repair findings and provide customer recommendations

Follow up on completed repairs to ensure customer satisfaction


Customer Interaction:


Communicate professionally with residential and commercial clients

Explain technical issues and repair recommendations in customer-friendly language

Provide accurate estimates and time frames for service

Maintain a clean work area and respect customer property

Build positive relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals


Administrative & Documentation:


Complete service tickets and work orders accurately and timely

Use HouseCallPro field service software for job tracking

Document all parts used, labor hours, and system specifications

Provide photos and notes for quality assurance

Follow up on customer inquiries and feedback



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Certifications:


High school diploma or GED

Valid EPA Section 608 Certification (Type III minimum; Type I, II preferred)

Valid Florida HVAC License (CAC) or ability to obtain within 90 days

Valid Florida Refrigeration License or ability to obtain

Valid driver's license with clean driving record


Experience:


Minimum 2-3 years of HVAC installation and service experience

Experience with residential and/or commercial systems

Proficiency with ductwork installation and refrigerant handling

Familiarity with industry-standard tools and diagnostic equipment

Experience with split systems, package units, or rooftop units preferred


Technical Skills:


Strong understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

Proficiency with specialized tools (multimeters, pressure gauges, vacuum pumps, etc.)

Knowledge of electrical connections and safety protocols

Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities


Soft Skills:


Excellent communication and customer service abilities

Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Strong work ethic and attention to detail

Willingness to learn new systems and techniques

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay Structure:


Hourly Rate: $20-$32/hour (based on experience and certifications)

Commission: 5-10% of full job book value (with tiered deductions for discounts; 0% at 50% floor)

Overtime: Time-and-a-half for hours over 40/week

Paid Time Off: 2 weeks vacation, 5 sick days, paid holidays


Company-Provided Vehicle:


Fully equipped service van with equipment

Gas/fuel provided by company

Vehicle maintenance and insurance covered by company

Van remains company property; personal use not permitted
