Locums - Potsdam, New York Surgery NP/PA Opportunity
Clinical Role
Join a collaborative surgical team in Potsdam, New York, providing a combination of Surgical First Assist operating room coverage and inpatient surgical floor management. This ongoing locums opportunity is ideal for an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with robotics experience who is comfortable caring for general surgery, orthopedic, and OB/GYN patients.
Assignment Details
Start Date:
Provider must be available to work September 28 - October 9, 2026, with additional ongoing coverage available throughout the assignment.
Coverage Requirements:
Required coverage September 28 - October 9
Opportunity for ongoing weekday and weekend coverage
One to two weekend call assignments per month available
Approximately four weeknight call shifts per month available
Orientation:
Orientation is preferred during the week prior to October 1 to become familiar with the surgical unit, orthopedic service, and obstetric workflows before weekend call responsibilities begin.
Schedule
Weekday Coverage:
7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
OR
3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Weeknight Call:
5:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Approximately four shifts per month
Weekend Call:
Friday 5:00 PM - Monday 7:00 AM
Weekend rounding:
Saturday and Sunday
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Weekend call may include C-sections and hip fracture cases.

Patient Population:
Adult patients with a wide variety of acute medical and surgical conditions
Clinical Responsibilities:
Surgical first assist in the operating room
Daily inpatient surgical rounding
Progress notes
Order management
Discharges
Inpatient consultations
Care coordination with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams
Coverage primarily includes:
General Surgery
Orthopedic Surgery
OB/GYN
First Assist Responsibilities:
Cauterizing wounds and blood vessels
Packing surgical sponges
Positioning patients for optimal surgical access
Placing clamps and sutures
Closing incisions using sutures, staples, or adhesives
Applying direct pressure to tissue and vessels
Assisting with suction, drainage, and irrigation
Achieving hemostasis
Immobilizing patients during procedures

Board Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Required
Active New York License - Required
Minimum two years of recent surgical experience - Required
Robotic surgery experience - Required
Orthopedic surgery experience - Strongly Preferred
BLS (American Heart Association) - Required
ACLS (American Heart Association) - Required
ATLS - Required
Epic experience - Required
