Clinical Role
Join an established Cardiothoracic Surgery team in Flagstaff, Arizona, providing inpatient management, first assist support, and call coverage for adult cardiothoracic surgery patients. This locums opportunity is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with recent cardiothoracic surgery experience and proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH).

Clinical Details & Responsibilities
Practice Setting:
Hospital
Cardiothoracic Surgery Department
199-bed hospital
Patient Population:
Adult
Geriatric
Patient Volume:
10-15 CVICU and step-down patients daily
One to two surgeries per day
Clinical Responsibilities:
Daily inpatient rounding
CVICU and step-down patient management
First assist support during cardiothoracic procedures
Postoperative management
Call coverage
Collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeon
Required Procedures & Skills:
Endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)
Temporary pacemaker removal
Chest tube removal
Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal
Arterial line placement
Recent cardiothoracic surgery experience
Support & Technology
Support Staff:
Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Collaborative inpatient surgical team

Credentialing Timeframe:

Requirements
For Physician Assistants:
Graduate of an NCCPA-approved Physician Assistant program - Required
NCCPA Certification or Certification Eligible - Required
Active Arizona Physician Assistant License or License Eligibility - Required
Minimum three years of cardiothoracic surgery experience with EVH - Required
DEA Registration - Required
ACLS (American Heart Association) - Required
BLS (American Heart Association) - Required
For Nurse Practitioners:
Master's Degree in Nursing - Required
Graduate of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program - Required
Completion of an RN/NP First Assistant Program - Required
Current unrestricted Arizona APRN License - Required
ANCC or AANP Certification (Medical Surgical or Nurse Practitioner) - Required
Minimum three years of cardiothoracic surgery experience with EVH - Required
DEA Registration - Required
ACLS (American Heart Association) - Required
BLS (American Heart Association) - Required
