Tablet Coating Operator (41)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Coating Operator is responsible for all activities
related to the coating of the product as per formula instructions. Also, responsible for
adhering to SOPs and GMPs to assure the quality and quantity of product produced
conforms to company standards. Works under the general direction of production
management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:
• Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Follow good health and hygiene practices including gowning.
• Follow procedures for changing gloves in between products and as needed.
• Follow GMPs at all times.
• Clean equipment, utensils and room according to approved cleaning procedures.
• Record production activities on batch production record and logs using good
documentation practices.
• Operate coating pans including checking inlet/outlet temperatures, air flow across
pan, mist checker flow meters, gear pump calibration and solution spray rate,
nozzle atomized air flow rate, etc.
• Prepare coating solutions as required, (clear or color), load tablets, operate
aqueous coating machines and maintain attention time to process variables and
the indicators, (gauges, meters, control knobs and valves) that are provided.
• Upon completion of coating cycle, cool down tablet bed, and polish tablets if
applicable. Coordinate testing of disintegration time and appearance results with
Quality Assurance to ensure customer specifications are achieved.
• Download/discharge of coated tablets into sanitary product containers.
• Obtain quality approval as required by current operating procedures.
• Follow BPR's, SOP's, GMP's, and safety guidelines. Monitors operations for
deviations, quality problems, or mechanical problems.
• Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work.
• All other duties as assigned.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Identifies safety, quality, and efficiency improvements.
• Assist with the troubleshooting of equipment/processing problems.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and
percent. Familiar with the metric system.
• Mechanical ability to disassemble/reassemble various coating area equipment.
• Accuracy and attention to detail is extremely critical.
• Good communication skills and ability to work both individually and as part of a
team with a variety of people.
• Ability to speak, read and write in English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
• Stand and walk on hard surfaces for long periods of time, up to 4 hours at a time.
• Stand/remain upright, walk, kneel, bend, turn, stoop and squat repetitively.
• Stand/remain upright and stationary for long periods of time, up to 4 hours at a
time.
• Reach forward repeatedly.
• Able to see/read details at close range (within a few feet).
• Able to handle drums up to 110 kg and lift containers up to 40 lbs.
• Able to hand-scoop 5 lbs. intermittently throughout the workday.
• Job requires wearing personal protective equipment to include various styles of
respirators (1/2 face, full face, and dust mask).
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in pharmaceutical production required.
• Basic reading comprehension and math skills necessary to follow BPR
instructions and complete BPR calculations.
