• Shift Duration: 8 hours
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM, plus night call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 AM; Saturday and Sunday 24-hour on-call coverage
• EMR: EPIC
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $4,900-$5,250

Job Requirements

• Active Indiana Physician Assistant license required at the time of submission
• NCCPA certification required
• Minimum of 1 year of cardiothoracic surgery experience or experience in a similar surgical setting required; new graduates will not be considered
• Maquet vein harvesting experience required
• Strong OR, bedside, and inpatient rounding experience in cardiothoracic surgery preferred
• Ability to support night and weekend call coverage as scheduled
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
• Self-query NPDB report required within 30 days of presentation
• Local candidates in Mishawaka, South Bend, and surrounding Northern Indiana communities are highly preferred

Responsibilities

• Serve as first assist in cardiothoracic surgery cases
• Round on hospitalized patients and help manage pre- and post-operative care
• Perform pre-op physical exams, write prescriptions, order tests, and complete documentation and progress notes
• Assist with vein and artery harvesting using the Maquet system
• Support procedures such as chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, suture and staple removal, wound care, and debridement
• Provide acute and chronic patient care, including histories, physical examinations, consultations, discharge summaries, and therapy management
• Interpret clinical data and collaborate with surgeons on diagnostic and therapeutic plans
• Communicate treatment plans with surgeons, nursing staff, respiratory therapy, cardiac rehab staff, referring providers, and families
• Respond to emergencies and support CPR and ACLS protocols when needed
