A successful candidate can adapt to a variety of work environments and quickly solve problems. Their main responsibility is to provide excellent customer service while maintaining equipment, with specific duties including:
- Repair Trucks and various types of equipment
- Perform quality control inspections before releasing unit back to customer
- Installing or upgrading customer owned equipment in various field locations
- Configuring hardware and software components after installation
- Performing routine maintenance on equipment
- Use diagnostic tools to test equipment to troubleshoot issues
- Documenting installation and repairs
- Maintaining all tools and equipment used during service calls
- Managing and ordering the required replacement parts necessary to complete the outlined service and repairs on customers equipment
- Operate commercial vehicles and equipment to properly diagnose performance and drivability concerns
- Maintain possession of a commercial drivers license of a class B or higher
Field Service Technicians need various prerequisite skills and qualifications to fill the position, including:
- Strong customer service skills
- Deadline and detail-oriented
- Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
- Written and verbal communication skills to understand issues customers have and to explain technical information to customers in clear terms
- Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment
- Time-management skills to handle appointments efficiently and stay on schedule
- Attention to detail to spot issues before returning unit to work and complete accurate reports about the repairs
- Organizational skills to keep tools and paperwork organized while in the field
- Computer and technical skills to aid in troubleshooting and understand the equipment fully
- Scheduling flexibility for after hours calls
- Be able to submit to drug screenings as required by commercial vehicle operators
The ideal candidate would have following experience:
- Previous experience working on heavy equipment, and on highway trucks
- Proper use of PPE and shop tools
- Technical schooling relating to automotive, heavy trucks, and heavy equipment technology
- Familiar with most makes of heavy trucks and/ or equipment
- Experience in troubleshooting electronic controlled diesel engines, and transmissions
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanically governed diesel engines
- Experience in troubleshooting transmissions and drivetrain complaints relating to noise and/ or vibrations
- Understanding of electrical systems and familiarity with electrical components
- Understanding of hydraulic systems and familiarity with hydraulic components
