ATC West Healthcare is seeking a locum Orthopedic Surgeon to provide 24-hour call coverage at its hospital in Dickinson, North Dakota. The physician will be responsible for evaluating and treating orthopedic patients presenting through the emergency department, including trauma and fracture cases, while performing necessary surgical and non-surgical orthopedic procedures. This assignment is needed because the current provider is unavailable during the specified coverage period.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide orthopedic call coverage for emergency department patients
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage orthopedic injuries and conditions
  • Perform orthopedic surgical procedures as needed
  • Provide fracture stabilization and splinting
  • Manage orthopedic trauma cases and urgent consultations
  • Coordinate care with emergency department and operating room staff

Patient Volume & Case Types

  • Average of 2 5 patients per day, with potential for increased volume during community events
  • Common cases include:
    • Trauma injuries
    • Fractures
    • Dislocations
    • Sprains and strains
    • Tendon ruptures

Support Staff

  • Emergency Department staff
  • Operating Room staff

Reason for Coverage

  • Current orthopedic provider is unavailable during the requested coverage period
Required Skills & Qualifications Required
  • Board Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon (truly Board Eligible accepted)
  • Active IMLC eligibility or ability to obtain North Dakota licensure
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Ability to perform orthopedic surgical procedures, fracture stabilization, and splinting
  • Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days of presentation
Highly Preferred
  • Board Certification in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Active North Dakota medical license
  • Active DEA registration (required during credentialing)
  • Clean malpractice and professional history
  • Experience managing orthopedic trauma and emergency call coverage
